1860's – 1900's

1868 | Where it all began.
Polk Miller opens a drug store in Richmond, Virginia and begins formulating health care products for his beloved hunting dogs. Soon he sells products to others.

1886 | The name game.
In honor of his favorite dog, Mr. Miller names his animal remedies business Sergeant’s. Products are now sold in other drug stores throughout the Southeastern US. Advertising begins in national magazines.

1888 | Future feathered friends.
German immigrant Max Geisler starts a business that ultimately grows into the renowned Geisler brand of bird seed. Later, it becomes part of Sergeant’s.

Early 1900's | The first advances.
Sergeant’s develops and markets the first mange medicine for dogs. Special canine vitamins from Sergeant’s also hit the stores.

1910's – 1930's

1913 | Onward and upward.
Sergeant’s is widely known throughout the Southeastern US. After its founder dies, the company continues to grow under new leadership.

1920's | Feelin’ good.
The company finds new ways to help pets by developing wormers and other health remedies.

1928 | Making history.
Sergeant’s medicines and dog food are chosen for the sled dogs used by the Commander Richard Byrd expedition to the South Pole.

1930 | From coast to coast.
By 1930, Sergeant’s has become a nationally-known brand of pet supplies.

1940's – 1950's

1940's | Fleas? No, we’ll skip.
Sergeant’s introduces Skip-Flea shampoo for dogs. This brand is still America’s favorite flea and tick shampoo!

1950's | The pet boom.
As families boom in post-war America, so does pet ownership. More and more pet owners turn to Sergeant’s.

1960's – 1970's

1962 | Life just got better.
For millions of dogs and their owners, life just got better with the introduction of the Sentry Flea and Tick collar from Sergeant’s.

1967 | R&D takeoff.
Sergeant’s is purchased by pharmaceutical leader A.H.Robins. Research and development efforts gear up.

1970's | Eggs, milk, flea collar.
During this decade, Sergeant’s continues to grow, expanding into grocery stores nationwide. Ah, convenience.

1980's – 1990's

1989 | Westward ho.
After being acquired by ConAgra, Sergeant’s relocates corporate headquarters to Omaha, Nebraska. They also join forces with Geisler, the leading brand in bird seed.

1990's | Staying on top.
Through dedication to scientific research and product development, Sergeant’s becomes the leader in developing over-the-counter squeeze-on topical pest control products for pets.

2000's

2000 | Strong and proud.
Sergeant’s begins the new millennium as an independent, closely held company.

2001 | Yum.
Sergeant’s acquires the Pet Life Foods pet treats business. This expansion put smiles on millions of dog and cat faces. We all know pets can smile.

2003 | Aging gracefully.
With Sergeant’s introduction of Joint-Eze joint health supplement for pets, some of the crackling and aches that plague pets as they age are diminished.

2004 | Play time.
Sergeant’s rounds out their product offerings by acquiring Sun Pet Toys. Hey, even dogs and cats need to have a little fun in life!

2005 | Putting the special into specialty.
Sergeant’s expands their exclusive offerings for pet specialty stores such as PETsMART and PETCO.

But wait, that’s not all!
Sergeant’s increases their dedication to fish health and maintenance through two important acquisitions: the consumer brands division of Virbac Corporation, including the Mardel® line, and the Aquarium Products® brand from Interpet.
